What I Look For in a Piece Before It Ever Touches Our Floor
Showstoppers, workhorses, a little history, and the gut check that decides what makes the cut.
I’ve never believed great design follows rules. The rooms I love most tell a story about the person who lives there. Maybe nothing matches. The proportions are a little off, or a lot off. And yet it somehow works.
My own home is proof. It’s a mismatch of styles: my kids’ artwork hanging near professional photography, lucite chairs, a little bit of everything. Most of it lived a previous life before it landed with us. (Old habits from before the Revision Home days.) On paper, none of it should work together. It works anyway, because it’s home for my family and me.
That same instinct drives every piece in our inventory. When people look for luxury event furniture rental in Chicago, they’re rarely looking for furniture. They want to create a space that feels like them, whether that’s a wedding lounge, a sporting event, or a brand activation. So before anything earns a spot on our warehouse floor, it has to pass a few tests.
Does It Make Us Gasp?
Literally. Out loud. Our favorite pieces are the ones that stopped someone on our team mid-sentence the first time they saw them. If that’s the reaction in-house, I’m pretty confident an event designer or a brand manager will feel it too. These are the showstoppers, the statement sofa or bar that a whole lounge gets built around.
Does It Play Well With Others?
A showstopper needs a supporting cast. That’s where our workhorses come in: custom event bars, high top tables, and stylish outdoor furniture. They aren’t the flashiest pieces we own, but they’re stylish and completely essential. Every one of them is chosen to work with pretty much everything else in our warehouse, so a planner can pair a vintage-feeling settee with a modern bar and have it look intentional instead of accidental. That’s what makes corporate event furniture rental in Chicago so much easier when it all comes from one curated collection. (Chandeliers optional. But always encouraged.)
Does It Have a Story?
None of our inventory comes from the same source, and I like it that way. Pieces with some history bring their own character into a room. Guests may never know where that sofa came from, but they can recognize the wow factor.

Does My Gut Say Yes?
Honestly, this is the test that matters most. There’s no spreadsheet for it. Every piece is a bet made on instinct, and I’d be lying if I said every bet paid off. We’ve had pieces sit on our shelves for a couple of years before they took off. We’ve reluctantly said goodbye to others. (I have the toughest time doing this.) Choosing what goes into a luxury lounge furniture rental collection is much more art than science, and after 12 years I’ve made my peace with that.
When the Perfect Piece Doesn’t Exist Yet
Sometimes the story a client wants to tell needs something we don’t have. That’s why I’m so excited about our growing customization department. Right now, clients can custom paint select pieces from our collection to match a palette, a brand, or a wedding theme. Next year, we’re expanding into custom builds, so clients can personalize their events from the ground up. (That one deserves its own post, and it’s coming.)
The Real Test
Whether it’s a tented wedding, a gala, or a three-day brand activation, the goal is the same one I have for my own living room: a space that couldn’t belong to anyone else. Mismatched in the best way. Full of story. A little over the top, if you ask this New Orleans girl.
